One fat fuck vs. Foucault: Game theoretic approaches to gaming social networks

Paper presented at the kiwicon (2k7) NZ security conference. Basically covered a couple of ways of messing with people on livejournal ;) Slides are available:

LJ Mojo

The LJ Mojo meme was an experiment in memetic engineering that went horribly horribly right. Purporting to ask people for information on who they had dated for another lame quiz of the "Which gothic fairy am I?" variety, actually it's motives were far more insidious. Goatse was hotlinked. Data was published. Lulz were had by all and sundry and the divorce rate skyrocketed.

Ah yes. My glory days.

Sable_debutante

A livejournal bot, possibly the most advanced (ahem!) serial adder in existence. Designed as an artifical social construct. No source code, lost alas! in the smoggy mists of time :(

  • Results of bot can still be seen at sable_debutante.livejournal.com
  • I made a more primitive serial adder for general release called lj_wh0re. No longer works that well due to livejournal putting severe limits on how many friends you can add per a day ;_; Could be useful as a reference though.
